So what is Emotional Intelligence?

It's very special

Those of you who have read any of the books or articles will have some knowledge of it but for others it may be hard to make sense – emotional and intelligence? Sounds contradictory doesn’t it?

Well the theme goes something like this. We all[well most – there may be a few exceptions] are built with emotions running through us every day. We get irritated even angry suddenly without warning – good example is road rage. Sometimes an emotional reaction is not useful because it may not get a good result for example a job interviewer might really irritate you with silly questions and you may react to it badly whereas if you had stayed calm and answered professionally you might have got the job.

Emotional intelligence is a skill and ability that we are each born with and it can be increased and developed to improve success in our life and career.

So what if you could learn techniques to manage these emotions and use them to your advantage? Even better what if you could read other people’s emotions and use that knowledge to do better? Well you can. In one day you can have the basics to immediately start practising and make a difference to your life and the success you achieve.

Emotional Intelligence Information Application

Brief MSCEIT [Mayer Salovey Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test] questions

  1. Do you know what people feel or misread their emotions?
  2. Do you smile when happy or pleased or maintain a neutral expression?
  3. Can you read people accurately or fail to identify how they feel?
  4. Are you good at recognising your own feelings or misunderstand them?
  5. Do you express your feelings when upset or have problems expressing them in a productive way?
Brief example [source Charles Darwin] ‘recognising the difference between a stranger who is ready to help you and one who may attack you may spell the difference between living another day and ending up dead’
